Capsule Geology

The Big Bar prospect is located south west of the Fraser River, across from Big Bar Creek, at an elevation of 600 metres.

The area is underlain by massive andesite of the Upper Cretaceous Kingsvale Group. To the east of the north west- striking Edge fault along Reynold's Creek are Eocene rhyolitic and dacitic tuffs, which are possibly correlative with the Kamloops Group east of the Fraser fault. The region in which the property occurs is cut by two north west- trending splays of the Fraser fault.

Locally, several epithermal quartz-carbonate vein systems occur, mainly within andesite but also near the contact of andesite with underlying basalt. The veins consist of brecciated and vuggy, limonite-stained quartz and contain disseminated pyrite, chalcopyrite, minor sphalerite and arsenopyrite.

The No. 1 vein is up to 1.5 metres wide and has been followed for at least 100 metres. This vein strikes to the east and dips 23 degrees north. In 1987, samples of the vein yielded up to 2.17 grams per tonne gold and 3.8 grams per tonne silver over 1.4 metres, and 0.72 grams per tonne gold and 8.2 grams per tonne silver over 3.6 metres (Assessment Report 17366).

The No. 2 vein is up to 5 metres wide, strikes at 157 degrees and dips west. It has been followed for at least 12 metres. In 1987, a grab sample from this vein assayed 0.9 grams per tonne gold and 3.0 grams per tonne silver (Assessment Report 17366).

The No. 3 vein is 2 to 3 metres wide, strikes 360 degrees and dips 23 degrees west. The vein extends more than 150 metres along strike and to a depth of 65 metres. This vein/zone, tested by diamond -drilling in 1988, assayed up to 1.68 grams per tonne gold with 52.1 grams per tonne silver over 3 metres (Assessment Report 18352).

The No. 4 vein consists of a zone of rusty quartz carbonate veins associated with a shear zone. In 1988, a sample (14030) assayed 2.15 grams per tonne gold with 12.2 grams per tonne silver over 18 centimetres (Assessment Report 18838).

In 1980, drilling assayed intercepts of up to 4.5 grams per tonne gold over 3.0 metres (Hole 80-13; Assessment Report 8142). In 1987, two rock samples (4271 and 9207) of quartz-carbonate veins yielded 1.41 and 1.96 grams per tonne gold, respectively (Assessment Report 16049). In 2008, samples from sulphide-bearing andesitic volcanic rocks, with moderate to advanced argillic alteration and quartz -carbonate veins, assayed up to 3.35 grams per tonne gold with 13.4 grams per tonne silver (Sample 018; Assessment Report 30576)

In 1980, Kerr Addison Mines completed a percussion drilling program, totalling 1635 metres in 30 holes, on the area as the Big Bar claims. In 1987, Hudson Bay Exploration prospected and collected rock samples in the area as the Edge 1 claim. During 1987 through 1989, Brenwest Mining completed programs of rock, silt and soil sampling, trenching, geological mapping, a 49.5 line-kilometre ground geophysical survey and 16 diamond drill holes, totalling 1426.5 metres. During 1997 through 1999, the area was prospected as the Big Bar 11A claim. In 2008, Takara Resources completed a program of soil and rocks sampling.
